Step Your Fresh Up Friday

This week has been pretty exciting and chock full of great material from across the globe.  A couple of real treats are in store for you to rock over the weekend and beyond!

Curtis B's new EP coming up on Drop the World is an all around killer.  From electro to breaks and dubstep to Drum and Bass/Drumstep he's smashing it up and never getting pigeon-holed.  His sound design is familiar but distinct.  It's not just another cookie cutter complextro tune, it's Curtis B!  The glue of the EP is just this.  No matter what the genre, there's a common sound set.  My personal favorite attribute about his sound is the lo-fi wind downs and killer fills.  Scope the tunes and pick up the EP on Beatport when it drops!

The always expected clean sound design from Mord Fustang, but the cutting edge of BT and vocals from Angela McCluskey crush this one.  Glitched out, and sounding epic in its very own way are trademarks of Plasmapool's most popular artist right now.  The vocal pitch manipulations are spot on with what my ears expect.  This one is a big room banger for sure.  The drums in the beginning of the taster build just right to the vocals and come smashing right back out to the drop.  The arpegiated leads that are the trademark of the modern complextro sound are polished and give you just what you want.

Vize is coming to Cincinnati on the 29th for Shut Up Gina and Dance by B.O.T. productions and has just released another killer breaks tune to condition your eardrums for his arrival.  The drums come out swingin' from the beginning and the synth stabs build it up just right.  The driving basslines are a staple and make this beast come to life.  If you know how to build anticipation like Mitchell does, you're definitely on the right track.  It is not only killer sounds, but killer arrangement is what make a great producer, and he hits it on all the marks.

Stylus Rex from Ground Level just had a release on beatport and wanted to give us a bit of a taste of with a free short edit as well as full previews of the tunes!  The edit showcases the rolling sub bass and emotion that hasn't been present in a lot of music lately.  It's quite refreshing to see tunes like this pop up and I'll guarantee you'll have a spot for it in a set upcoming.  The Access Denied mix takes it to a harder level and gives it to you with a raw style.  Grinding synths crunch down just right at the drop is and leave you wanting more.

Snatch it up here at Beatport

Last but not least, the man himself Simon Shackleton aka Elite Force has a full 2 hours of mayhem from Burning Man 2011 at the Distrikt camp and TWO free tunes.  There's not much to say but WOW.  Check out the refixes and you can pretty much count on dropping them this weekend if you haven't already.

Complextro Is In...

Big things are always a staple from Mord Fustang with his epic electro tunes.  They've been dropping on Plasmapool week by week and are nothing short of big!  All the characteristics of complextro shine through, the melodic breakdowns are pleasing to the ears with a bit of delayed percussive synths it's sound is cultivated and funky.  To go along with it is a properly sized bassline to compliment all the elements perfectly.  The goal of complextro is to be polished, danceable, and be able to have builds without boredom.  Mord hits the nail on the head every tune.  He uses a lot of the same samples/synths in many of his tracks which are all quite refined and will likely be a staple for some time to come.  Check the teaser and cop the track from Beatport!

Mord Fustang - Magic Trooper by Mord Fustang

Here's some booty from the Physical Bross and Four Motion with this taster of their latest work.  It's a heavy track but the funky sounds will get bottoms shakin' it for sure.  The sub bass and quirky synths really do it for me.  I really like the intro as well, a nice building helicopter LFO and rise to match.  Be sure to check the rest of their tracks for some more great breaks vibes.

Kid Vibe out of Vancouver is droppin' some seriously funky tunes with some disco flavor.  His tracks have been some 90's RnB bangers remixed in a new school disco fashion with pitched up vox.  Really dope glitches and filter sweeps make this a keeper.  His previous tracks range anywhere from jackin' chicago house to new jack and all things funky.  Keep an eye out on for him on Midwest Hustle Recordings, Flapjack Records, and Greenhouse Recordings!  Get down with the RnB jams!

Smooth Electro Sounds & Raging Dubstep Pounds

Welcome to another week, hopefully it's starting out as well for you as it is for me!  I found this preview from Mord Fustang (aka Miles Dyson) this morning to a very pleasant surprise.  Intelligent synths and huge builds are a trademark while the switch to dubstep threw me for a loop.  A huge tune sure to please all crowds is all I really have to say about this.  Miles' production is super clean on esvery track and he's been in the game long enough to know exactly how to make the floor churn.  Consistency in release quality and bangin' sound design make him a force to be reckoned with.

Mord Fustang - A New World by Mord Fustang

Not quite the same vibe as Mord Fustang, but another hot dubstep track from none other than Elite Force.  Never limiting himself to one style and making breakthroughs across all genres, Simon has his own unique take on any tune he touches.  Keep in mind this is a work in progress and according to Simon "A little something I cooked up in the lab on my travels in Australia / NZ over the past couple of weeks."  Hopefully a full release will be dropped, but only time will tell.

Step Your Fresh Up Fridays: The Aftermath

After one of the most exhausting weekends of partying, networking, and all around madness (ahh DEMF...), it's time for some serious tunes to bring us back to it.  As we approach the onset of summer, SMiRK from Dance Hard Die Hard provides us with a mix of tunes that go boom.  Ranging from aggressive DnB to breaks with that summer vibe, electro house and dubstep, he makes it clear that it's time to get down.  Broken beat masterminds and 4/4 fiends litter the tracklist and come together to make this mix proper beyond proper.  I was so excited when I saw the tracklist because I have a lot of them in store for you all myself...now on to the show!  The mix is available for download here or just click link to begin playing.  Enjoy and props to SMiRK for always going outside the box when mixing...run it selecta!

Epic Progressive and Energetic

Being a long time supporter of Plasmapool Records I'm not surprised by the quality coming from them lately.  Very polished production is one of their trademarks and bangin' tracks is another. Their latest doesn't fall short in either of these categories. With a more epic feel to the breakdowns and builds the recent releases under Mord Fustang and now Virtu are sure to put it down proper.  Waiting for this one to drop to get some dancefloor reactions, which I'm 100% sure will be positive.

Virtu - Arsenal by Plasmapool

Fussy Boy - Gold (Mord Fustang Remix) by Mord Fustang

With a clean progressive breaks feel, Vize delivers it straight from the pacific northwest with his own flair and flavor.  I really like the piano breakdown and the techy synths to tie it all together.  Be on the lookout for a new release from Vize and Echoik in the coming month or so.  I've been bangin' it out every set I've played for the past couple weeks with a great dancefloor response, soon to come on the blog!

Decay - Refuse (Vize Remix) by Vize

Well we've covered our first two topics of the day, now on to the energetic tune of the day.  REL1 at it again with a hard hitting electro breaks re-rub of Fast Foot.  Staying true to the hype, REL1 delivers wobbly vocal synths along with gut-wrenching kicks.  The only justice for his tracks is to be played on a club system, so cop the free DL and see for yourself.

Fast Foot - Race My Music (REL1 RE-RUB) by REL1

To recap todays topics we will tie them all together in Microprophet's newest drum and bass mix with elements of each.  Starting out a bit progressive and classic with the dnb Robin S remix, Microprophet takes you on a half hour journey through some ear friendly dnb to start out your day or end out your night.  Beware though, it does get hype, so be prepared for the ill behavior!
