Step Your Fresh Up Fridays - Soul with a Broken Beat
A.Skillz the master of the wheels of steel finally released his nu funk remix of California Soul. I first heard this on his Annie Nightengale mixThe vocals of the motown days really cut through me every time. The bouncy lead hits a natural groove that pairs perfectly with the soulful vibes of Marlena Shaw and the original tune. I first heard this in his Beats Working Vol 1 mix and I've been waiting for it ever since. A true master of flexin' the funk, A.Skillz is heading across the globe with his signature sound.

Kwerk from London, UK is killin' it here with his newest breaks work in progress Rock It Like This. Not only a funky stuttered arrangement of b-boy samples but a meat grinder of a bassline synth keeping your feet right on track. I really enjoy the first breakdown as well, not just a standard windup, but rather a little old school ravey bit to the drop. Keep a lookout for big things from Kwerk and the UK breaks scene, it's the raw business. Just a little added taste of Kwerk is his remix of Paloma Faith - New York. Really dig the vibes he's putting down and I think you will too.

Don't bother tellin' them that drum machine ain't got no soul...On the indie tip DJ Icey is rockin' it steady with the funk as usual. His latest is a remix of The Limousines is a true danceable indie killer that hits the spot just right. Summer vibes is definitely what this one is about...well, that and drum machines and disco balls. Have a listen, cop the download, and bang out this weekend.

Down South Breaks Hit Low
Breakbeat legend DJ Icey drops a miami bass remix of Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll and it's definitely not lacking in any respect...you're gonna need a sub to hear this one proper. It's definitely got the Icey feel to it, polished, great arrangement, and most importantly danceable as all hell. He even hit us with the free download, get it while you still can!

Next up is 8*B1T out of Austin, TX with a HOT remix of Blazerframe that's got some legit old school breakbeat flavor in the vox. Funky enough to make you bust out the cardboard and break on the spot. Get your boombox and your shelltoes and get down!
