Weekend where are you? Well, only a few hours away and we'll get it in before then to set it off with a boom, a bang, and maybe even a whoosh or two.
First up is a big breaks release, "The Theme" on Groundlevel from Andy McAllister also featuring a remix by DJ Hero. Appropriately named, the intro has a great brass sample that sounds like it's from a 70s TV show that slams into a deep bass heavy break! Developing into a jukey beat with some funky stabs and a hint of that brass it's lookin' hot! The DJ Hero remix is a standard issue club floor destroyer with effected out vocal samples and a driving breakbeat with a dash vibrato/wobble back into a glitched out brass loop. The drop hits hard with a heavily modulated synth and stabs of the brass. Delicious all the way through, check it and it just may even make it into your weekend set by surprise. There's also a FREE surprise from Andy that's a house classic spun around in a whole new breaky direction.

We all know Kick It here in the breaks community and I'm a huge fan but this latest work from Farace is through the roof on the electro tip. A super clean complextro banger, Get Up Jax has a catchy saw lead and a heavy bassline on deck. With only a teaser up at the moment I can't WAIT for the release to drop. The Bass mix takes it to a whole 'nother level on the drumstep front of things. Huge drum fills and a journey into the amen break get this grinder of a tune goin' from the floor up. The epic piano brings it from the grave to the rave and back again. This release will be BIG...even an acoustic version on the tubes for you straight from Paul himself!

For some hometown hotness from Cincinnati, OH DJ/MC Firecat 451 goes big with a liquid DnB remix of A Tribe Called Quest - Stressed Out. There's not many people that I would say could do a great job with this, but I knew when I heard him announce it that this was going to hit it right. With solid rolling basslines and a breakdown into hip hop it's bangin' it out. Liquid dnb always makes me feel like it's really fall and I have to say this pulls it in for me just the way I like it. Check the rest of Firecat's tunes/mixes on his site www.firecat451.com

Baymont Bross are at it again with their latest two track release on Pooty Club with a dutchy beat to get you bouncing. Where's the Beat has a less edgy dutch lead and hits hard with booming kicks. A full up intro to the drop gets it set off proper. The vocal and instrumental stabs make for a breaker's dream. MC Alaska is featured in Have Some Fun and bring it on with him. You can't resist groovin' to this one. The strings in the breakdown make for some great suspense, and it is not overdone. The beat drops right back in to finish it off right. Check the release when it drops!

Jesse is a nonstop MONSTER of re-rubs and As We Enter is no exception! I love the arrangement, it's similar to the Foamo remix from a while back. If you dig bangin' breaks and a hip hop tempo change you'll be in heaven. The free download as always for everyone to get a piece.

8*B1T brings is hard on Yellow Finger records with his Barb Wired remix. Heavy synths and filter modulation have you shaking in your set just wanting to get up and dance...so do it! Booming bass drums and an acidic feel are always a good combo and this just proves it.

Access Denied crushes it with his horn filled funky intro into Balkan Mountains. The intro continues to develop into a huge drop with a latin feel throughout. If you're a moombahton fan you'll be sure to dig this at a higher tempo. Although it's just a preview, Access Denied guarantees a banger of a release!
What time is it again? Oh yeah...11:11 To top it off we have Krisp from I11even Eleven taking you away with his Summer 2011 breaks mix. Not only a killer producer but a hell of a DJ too! Nuff said on this one, cop the download, drop the top down, roll around town!

Complextro Is In...
Big things are always a staple from Mord Fustang with his epic electro tunes. They've been dropping on Plasmapool week by week and are nothing short of big! All the characteristics of complextro shine through, the melodic breakdowns are pleasing to the ears with a bit of delayed percussive synths it's sound is cultivated and funky. To go along with it is a properly sized bassline to compliment all the elements perfectly. The goal of complextro is to be polished, danceable, and be able to have builds without boredom. Mord hits the nail on the head every tune. He uses a lot of the same samples/synths in many of his tracks which are all quite refined and will likely be a staple for some time to come. Check the teaser and cop the track from Beatport!
Mord Fustang - Magic Trooper by Mord Fustang
Here's some booty from the Physical Bross and Four Motion with this taster of their latest work. It's a heavy track but the funky sounds will get bottoms shakin' it for sure. The sub bass and quirky synths really do it for me. I really like the intro as well, a nice building helicopter LFO and rise to match. Be sure to check the rest of their tracks for some more great breaks vibes.
Physical Bross & Four Motion - Wet Tits (Original Booty) by Physical Bross
Kid Vibe out of Vancouver is droppin' some seriously funky tunes with some disco flavor. His tracks have been some 90's RnB bangers remixed in a new school disco fashion with pitched up vox. Really dope glitches and filter sweeps make this a keeper. His previous tracks range anywhere from jackin' chicago house to new jack and all things funky. Keep an eye out on for him on Midwest Hustle Recordings, Flapjack Records, and Greenhouse Recordings! Get down with the RnB jams!

An extended selection of tracks featured in the Motorstorm Apocolypse soundtrack produced by Klaus Badelt and Elite Force hit retailers on the 13th of this month and is making big waves. A genre-less release that will really get you thinking. Industrial, dramatic, energetic, and bass heavy are the best descriptors for it in my book, but you can judge for yourself. The sounds are unique, classical, and compelling and really put you into a space of your own. Simon's unique sound combined with 70 piece orchestra is why this is such a bomb of a release. That is something you will see in electronic music few and far between. I even got my hands on a free 320 download for you. Exclusive interview with Simon to follow, so for all those wondering what goes on inside that head of his, we'll get a bit of a peek.

Step Your Fresh Up Fridays - Soul with a Broken Beat
A.Skillz the master of the wheels of steel finally released his nu funk remix of California Soul. I first heard this on his Annie Nightengale mixThe vocals of the motown days really cut through me every time. The bouncy lead hits a natural groove that pairs perfectly with the soulful vibes of Marlena Shaw and the original tune. I first heard this in his Beats Working Vol 1 mix and I've been waiting for it ever since. A true master of flexin' the funk, A.Skillz is heading across the globe with his signature sound.
California soul (A.Skillz Remix) by A.Skillz
Kwerk from London, UK is killin' it here with his newest breaks work in progress Rock It Like This. Not only a funky stuttered arrangement of b-boy samples but a meat grinder of a bassline synth keeping your feet right on track. I really enjoy the first breakdown as well, not just a standard windup, but rather a little old school ravey bit to the drop. Keep a lookout for big things from Kwerk and the UK breaks scene, it's the raw business. Just a little added taste of Kwerk is his remix of Paloma Faith - New York. Really dig the vibes he's putting down and I think you will too.

Paul Van Dyk, not exactly...
Big things are coming on the regular from Michigan native William Van Dyke. His breaks style can range from old school to new, wobbles to heavy booty bass, he's got it all. Having been putting out re-rubs for the last year he's polished his production skills and ready to melt faces with his sounds. Not only a DJ, but major player in the midwest breaks culture, William throws events under his production company Dirty Beatz promotion. If you were in Michigan last summer you probably heard the hype about "Dude Where's My Tent 2"which brought big names from all around including DJ Dan, 12th Planet, and Reid Speed. His newest track hits e-tailers this Friday on Drop The World. A brilliant build into some b-boy samples then on with the boom clap boom boom clap...it's got a classic breaks vibe as well as a newschool flavor...to the tune!

Next up is a remix of one of those aforementioned heavyweights, DJ Dan. D*Funk brings it again with a remix of DJ Dan's "Chop Shop". D*Funk is a breakbeat wonder from down under that brings out the groovy downtempo breaks along the lines of A.Skillz up to the dirtiest of electro breaks. His label Upstart Music has some solid party tracks to get the floor going and even some bouncy cheeky ish to get silly to. Step Your Fresh Up Fridays: The Aftermath
After one of the most exhausting weekends of partying, networking, and all around madness (ahh DEMF...), it's time for some serious tunes to bring us back to it. As we approach the onset of summer, SMiRK from Dance Hard Die Hard provides us with a mix of tunes that go boom. Ranging from aggressive DnB to breaks with that summer vibe, electro house and dubstep, he makes it clear that it's time to get down. Broken beat masterminds and 4/4 fiends litter the tracklist and come together to make this mix proper beyond proper. I was so excited when I saw the tracklist because I have a lot of them in store for you all myself...now on to the show! The mix is available for download here or just click link to begin playing. Enjoy and props to SMiRK for always going outside the box when mixing...run it selecta!

Step Your Fresh Up Fridays - DEMF Weekend!
With DEMF this weekend I know people are about to get all kinds of crazy so here are some tunes that I think will help you get with it. Some groovy, some bangers, and even some for that late night hotel chill session to wind down.
Some of my favorite emcees to ever hit the stage make a guest appearance in D*Funk's bootleg of Linguistics by Jurassic 5. The groove of this tune stays true to how J5 would have it, but with a bit of a twist. A UK hip hop bounce track always makes me feel good, and this does just that. D*Funk is definitely not a stranger to the more techy true breakbeats as well. He has quite a few releases on Upstart Music that are bangers for sure.

Epic Progressive and Energetic
Being a long time supporter of Plasmapool Records I'm not surprised by the quality coming from them lately. Very polished production is one of their trademarks and bangin' tracks is another. Their latest doesn't fall short in either of these categories. With a more epic feel to the breakdowns and builds the recent releases under Mord Fustang and now Virtu are sure to put it down proper. Waiting for this one to drop to get some dancefloor reactions, which I'm 100% sure will be positive.
Virtu - Arsenal by Plasmapool
Fussy Boy - Gold (Mord Fustang Remix) by Mord Fustang
With a clean progressive breaks feel, Vize delivers it straight from the pacific northwest with his own flair and flavor. I really like the piano breakdown and the techy synths to tie it all together. Be on the lookout for a new release from Vize and Echoik in the coming month or so. I've been bangin' it out every set I've played for the past couple weeks with a great dancefloor response, soon to come on the blog!
Decay - Refuse (Vize Remix) by Vize
Well we've covered our first two topics of the day, now on to the energetic tune of the day. REL1 at it again with a hard hitting electro breaks re-rub of Fast Foot. Staying true to the hype, REL1 delivers wobbly vocal synths along with gut-wrenching kicks. The only justice for his tracks is to be played on a club system, so cop the free DL and see for yourself.
Fast Foot - Race My Music (REL1 RE-RUB) by REL1
To recap todays topics we will tie them all together in Microprophet's newest drum and bass mix with elements of each. Starting out a bit progressive and classic with the dnb Robin S remix, Microprophet takes you on a half hour journey through some ear friendly dnb to start out your day or end out your night. Beware though, it does get hype, so be prepared for the ill behavior!

No matter what your genre of choice, as long as you enjoy bass, you'll be loving the upcoming release from Left/Right, Digital Pizza, and Access Denied. Specimen A drops it again with a Chasing Shadows remix that really hits home for me. It's a breaky remix that still keeps a down low grimey element. I really like the fact that it's a mixture of killer upper basslines, broken drumbeats, and quirky synths!
Specimen A - Chasing Shadows feat. David Ivan (Breakstep Mix) OUT NOW by SpecimenA
I was really surprised to see a message in my inbox about this one, but I certainly would have been giving it a once over either way. Defunct!, Loc E!, AGAG, and Figure rock the spot with a mildly disco influenced tune to definitely get you bouncin'. The tempo drop really takes it down low and I can already tell the dance floor response with this one, it'll be a wild one. Check it!

Kid Digital and BETA have some serious bassline breaks action in "Bangin Machine" that drives the dancefloor like Jeremy Clarkson in the Ariel Atom (see pic above). Although the choice of sounds are mechanical as indicated by the name, they're sounds sure to make your body rock. The grinding mid-bass synth and killer percussion sound choice make this a sureshot for any breaker. The techy nature of it does just the same, keep on the look for this release from Bombtraxx!

Aquasky has a massive new breaks track with some old school breakdowns along with soulful vox from the one and only Diane Charlemagne. At the drop comes the distorted lead driving into some serious dancefloor business. The track has a great overall flow and incorporates a ton of styles from nu skool breaks, old school epic breakdowns, and soulful vocals. It's definitely got something for everyone.

Bring the Boom Back with a Bassline
Some of the biggest names in the scene right now come together on this massive fusion of breaks and dubstep. You can hear a piece of each artist in the track and really get a great vibe from it from beginning to end. So this one definitely takes me back...copped it on vinyl shortly after its release from Juno. Breaks based on basslines were the thing to do and I couldn't have agreed more. Aquasky always brings it pretty hard but this time he's building the pressure. Vox are done by an unknown vocalist which the Breakfastaz never revealed to Aquasky. Next up is 8*B1T out of Austin, TX with a HOT remix of Blazerframe that's got some legit old school breakbeat flavor in the vox. Funky enough to make you bust out the cardboard and break on the spot. Get your boombox and your shelltoes and get down!

Louisville Rocks It In More Ways Than One
Being on the up and up for some time now Louisville, KY is home to quite a few big contributors to our local EDM culture and beyond. First, I'll say that pretty much any party I've been to in Louisville has had a great energy about it and that goes for their talent as well; after all, they do provide the boom. From House, Techno, and Breaks to Dubstep and everywhere in between, they pretty much have it going on in one way or another. Events are thrown all the time, but the people that contribute to them make them what they are.
el PRODUKDo is one of my favorite breaks DJs from the area, but that's not where he stops. His sets cover almost any genre that you could possibly want to hear. He's a very versatile DJ that I first saw when I played at Auditory Hallucination with Monk at the old Fuzion. I hadn't danced that hard in a long time as he was tagging with DJ Sarge and dropped some HOT originals. Check his latest mix for a trip through it all, breaks, rock, rap, even a hot glitched out Super Mario remix intro...

Another ville'n to look out for is Glenn Giles aka Unkle Funk aka G.F.G. With residencies in Louisville and Nashville under his belt as well as his website featuring a weekly podcast, he is doing the city proud. Glenn doesn't only mix but produces house as well. With a touch of sex appeal, Glenn's deep vibes shine through in his latest track "Streetlite Searchparty". Check it out below and leave some love on his soundcloud!

Quadrat Beat, Davip, and Sound of the Future...Garage
Here's a standard issue Bit Flip fave from Quadrat Beat. It's along the lines of what you would expect from the Latvian breaks beast with a killer lead that hits the upper mid range right in the sweet spot. Keep a look out for this one dropping on beatport soon!
Lethalness - State Of Calme (Quadrat Beat Remix) by Quadrat Beat
The track keeps on holding on...here's another remix of Rusko for the breakbeat minded from Davip. Russian born Davip has over 30 releases from breaks to drum and bass on labels such as Ayra Recordings, Hardcore Beats, and Cut & Run. Check it for the standard hold on goodness you come to know and love from this one.
Rusko - Hold On (Sub Focus Remix) - Davip Breaks Edit - FREE 320 - MIRROR IN DESCRIPTION by Davip
Last is a whole different vibe that I've been digging lately, and it goes by the name of Future Garage. With a two-step feel, the sounds of future garage make it out to the dancefloor with a passion for old school speed garage fans as well as the serial groover. Today we have a track from Splintz, a UK producer that's been in the game for quite some time and it's evident in his old school feel. Definitely a producer to be watched for upcoming innovative tunes.

Breaking 1,000 Hits and Broken Beats
Thanks everyone for helping me break 1,000 hits on the blog, glad to see you're diggin' the content! I have some plans in store for the rest of the year and beyond so keep checkin back for new industry info, tunes, and maybe even some swag. Now onto what's up and up in the world of electronic dance music!
I was talking with Curtis B of Illeven Eleven Recordings yesterday and was tipped off to some new track previews on his soundcloud. He's got new collab work up with some dope artists soon to hit beatport and other digital music distribution avenues. Also lined up in the near future for him are some international acts in both Spain and Canada! My personal fave out of the three is "Headrush" with the 8-bit synth intro to the side-chained lead synth. Pretty good way to start off the new year the ill way!
